HBO
Home Box Office, America’s premium TV service for more than 30 years, understands that continuous innovation and ground-breaking programming are the key ingredients to remaining on top. In the area of technology, for example, HBO has been front and center in providing content that utilizes high definition (HD) technology to its fullest potential. HBO offers hotel guests award-winning programming that addresses the interests of all age groups. In 2005, HBO won 27 Primetime Emmy Awards® — three times more than any other network — including 17 for HBO original movies. HBO’s monthly slate includes more than 90 theatrical motion pictures, as well as original productions, including movies, series, documentaries, comedy, music, family shows, sports specials and World Championship Boxing. On Sunday nights, HBO delivers year-round premiere showings of its critically acclaimed original programming, including Entourage, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Real Time with Bill Maher and Big Love. HBO also has 48 of 2005’s top 100 movies (48) licensed to premium TV — this is more than any other network. These movies include “Star Wars Episode III,” “War of the Worlds” and “Batman Begins.” Theatrical headliners for September will include “Walk the Line” with Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon and Oscar®-nominated Joaquin Phoenix and “The Wedding Crashers” starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. HBO is the premium channel most preferred by hotel guests (Source: 2005 Hotel Caravan Study). This preference can be attributed to other research demonstrating that hotel guests want the same entertainment options that they are accustom to having at home. With HBO now reaching 30 million subscribers in the United States, it is clear that HBO is something that hotel guests expect to see when they check in. Soon, when HD television builds critical mass, guests also will expect to see this technology when they step into their hotel rooms. HBO is available via cable or satellite through authorized distributors, and some hotel chains might be eligible for launch incentives.
